SELINSGROVE - For a quarter Friday night, Shamokin Area kept the crowd on the home side at Harold L. Bolig Memorial quiet in the seats.
Over those first 12 minutes, the Indians played unbeaten Selinsgrove on even terms.
Then Selinsgrove, ranked second among Class AAA teams in the state, hit its stride.
With quarterback Cory Briggs firing four touchdown passes, and four different backs running for a touchdown apiece, the Seals (6-0) eventually rolled to a 55-16 victory that ended when a power outage made the stadium dark with 2 minutes, 31 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
In the first quarter, however, the Indians took the Seals' first big punch, then answered with one of their own.
On the game's first play from scrimmage, Briggs hit wideout Ryan Keiser in stride down the sideline for a 71-yard touchdown.
With just over five minutes left in the opening quarter, Shamokin drew even when quarterback Lee Supsic found Tim Bousson in the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown and a 7-7 score.
Three second-quarter touchdowns by Selinsgrove, including two in a span of 46 seconds, put Selinsgrove firmly in control.
The first of those scores, a two-yard run by Bryant Trautman, made it 14-7. The second, a 14-yard run by Kyle Reinard that was set up when Selinsgrove recovered a Shamokin Area fumble, made it 21-7.
After a 30-yard Brent Forbes field goal cut that to 21-10, the Seals made it 28-10 before the half when Briggs hit Kyle Schuck for a 34-yard score.
Briggs and Schuck connected again early in the third quarter, this time from 13-yards out to make it 35-10.
Three minutes later a five-yard Seth Lauver touchdown run made it 42-10, then another three minutes later Briggs hit Keiser for a 29-yard score and a 49-10 lead.
Shamokin Area's final touchdown, late in the third, came via a Jared Montgomery five-yard run.
