MOUNT CARMEL - A computer error temporarily stopped Southern Columbia's Matt Moore Friday at the Mount Carmel Invitational. Nothing short of a bullet could have stopped North Schuylkill's Brendan Shearn.

Moore ran a 15.36 in the 110-meter high hurdles, winning his heat and

posting the second-best overall time. But a computer mistake posted his time as 1:15.36 and sent him down to dead last among the qualifiers, and meet officials didn't catch it. Moore was not in the finals and his coaches lodged a complaint but too late.

Moore wasn't real happy, but he made up for it. He ran a strong leg on Southern's 400-meter relay team, which finished third in 45.58 seconds, then won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 41.71, coming from behind to beat North Schuylkill's Dan McSurdy (42.19).

"I was pretty mad when it (the mistake) happened, but people make mistakes and I just had to go out and run well after that," said Moore, a junior. "I had to keep going. I just wish I'd have had the chance to run the (110) final. I'd have liked to have run him (winner Kyle Pane of Athens, who won in 14.95)."

As for Shearn, there wasn't anything stopping the North Schuylkill sophomore. He won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, both in scintillating time. He beat runnerup Andrew Hess of Central Columbia by almost 100 meters, posting a time of 4:29.04 in the 1600, then came back a couple hours later to post a time of 9:40.52, 10 seconds better than his previous best, in the 3200, which he won by 45 seconds over runnerup Andrew Steely of Southern Columbia.

"I was really happy to beat 4:30 in the 1600 today," Shearn said. "I was hoping to do well at this meet. Then I was kind of surprised I felt so good in the 3200."

Shearn said his goal for the season is to win the 3200 at the state championships.

"I probably have to go under 9:30, but I think I can do that," he said. "I just have to concentrate and run better."

Pottsville's Casey Guers was one of three individual double winners. He won the 400 in 52.56 and the high jump at 6-5.\

Athens' Jared Gambrell set the meet's only record, breaking a 22-year-old record in the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 21/2 inches. That broke the record of 46-81/2 by former four-time state champ Bryan Delsite of Southern Columbia. Gambrell also won the long jump (31-83/4).

Selinsgrove's Tyler Kerstetter won the shot put (52-4) and discus (159-0).

Mount Carmel's Josh Maloney won the 100 (11.08) and Blue Mountain's Andrew Korrubbin won the javelin (177-2). Pottsville won the 400-meter relay (45.39), North Schuylkill the 1600 relay (3:39.85) and Mount Carmel the 3200 relay (8:33.17).

On the girls side, Danville distance runner Alison Billas was a double winner, taking the 1600 (5:14.53) and 800 (2:29.66).

North Schuylkill's Kaitlyn McSurdy won the 300 intermediate hurdles (46.44). Blue Mountain had winners with Brianna Rauenzahn in the 100 hurdles (15.93), the 400 meter relay team and Whitney Boyer in the high jump (5-2).

Hazleton's Bria Edwards won the 3200 in 12:00.31 and Tamaqua's Christine Streisel won the javelin (146-10).

There were still two events not included in the girls scoring at 10:30.
