I'm confused at how our varsity football team can win all the way through the little league and freshmen football but stumble in high school!! As a proud supporter of Shamokin football I am hoping for the best ,of course, but don't see many wins coming our way the rest of this season..I don't know the numbers but I am sure that there are at least 4 seniors who should be college freshmen and maybe 5 or 6 juniors who should be seniors!"RED SHIRT" On top of that how can we send 45 kids to 9th grade who have played in the city league or Little indians and only have 20 or so on the roster?? This stuff confuses me!! Is it coaching? is it parents, or are the kids becoming complacent after having success young!! I know the junior high coaches are good football guys (Bonshock, and Taylor 7th and 8th, Direnzo and company at 9th) which brings me to the notion that we need teachers to be coaches?? I think not!! We we need football minded guys who can relate to young men outside of school.I'm concerned for the kids I coach, the kids I have/will coach and of course my own son who enjoys the game! I think Carmen was a good coach, the kids really liked him. Z was a great D coach but I think lacked some organizational skills and a good offensive coach ( although I think Nye was very good). I'm not sold on the (what I perceive) over coaching the kids get from the new coach. What do you think??
